Coping Skills of ChangeThe two main coping skills of change are relaxation techniques and cognitive therapy. Relaxation techniques are important, because when you're tense you tend to do what's familiar and wrong instead of what's new and right. When you're tense, you're not open to change. Cognitive therapy is important because your thinking determines your mood. If, for instance, you think that things have to be perfect and anything less than perfect is a failure, you're setting yourself up for trouble. If you take an all-or-none stance or disqualify the positives in your life, you're more prone to anxiety, depression, and addiction. Cognitive therapy helps you let go of negative thinking and replace it with something better. You will learn a new approach to cognitive therapy.
